These geometric pieces deconstruct the traditional Saekdong (색동)  pattern into its core elements. By isolating the five directional colors (Obangsaek) into distinct shapes, the work explores the balance between fire, water, wood, metal, and earth in a modern, abstract form.

Saekdong (색동) is a iconic Korean pattern of bright, multicolored stripes. The name literally means "many-colored strips" (saek-dong). The colors are traditionally based on Obangsaek (오방색), the Korean five-color theory rooted in yin-yang and the five elements. In traditional Korean philosophy, Red represents the passion of Fire and the South, bringing happiness and vitality. Blue embodies the growth of Wood and the East, symbolizing peace and creation. Yellow stands for Earth and the Center, signifying prosperity. White reflects the clarity of Metal and the West, representing purity, while Black aligns with Water and the North, embodying deep wisdom.
