The Liminal Tide

The Liminal Tide uses the "wave" as a metaphor for the transition from my life in Seoul to a new horizon. Repurposing weathered Han Ji textures to represent ancestral history, I juxtapose these earthy elements against the turquoise depths of the Donghae (East Sea). This collision of materials captures the bittersweet nature of a self-determined journey, one rooted in the security of a home that remains accessible.

While my experience is one of opportunity, I recognize that for some others, the tide represents the peril and grief of forced displacement. By layering diverse materials, I invite viewers to contemplate the universal resilience required to reach a new shore. Ultimately, this work serves as a reminder that we all come from somewhere, asking the viewer to reflect: where are your roots from?
